Backup and Storage Administrator
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all activities related to storage management & planning & usage forecast and advise on the future investment.
- Manage all the backup appliances & tools and do the planning for all systems backups in accordance with standards requirements.
- Work with the business owner to understand the content and the criticality of the data being backed up.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration policies procedures for backups and storage management.
- Coordinate the engagement with vendors regularly to understand the market dynamics.
- Regular engagement with the system owner to ensure the validity of the backup retention policy.
- Perform storage analysis frequently to predict the storage growth and advise on the future plans.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for storage administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
- Provide insights on the daily storage & backup monitoring, ensuring the integrity of data and the availability of the resources, analysing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled backup jobs
- Lead and coordinate the daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Install new / rebuild existing storages and configure storage and backups for all systems in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Contribute to and maintain system standards.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware storage resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
- Apply patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
- Serve as the contact person for OEMs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer science/Engineering or Information System.
- At least 4 years of experience with Backup activities & Storage management
- Sound experience on Windows & Linux Administration
