RAN Backoffice Engineer

Position title
RAN Back office Engineer
Responsibilities
  • 2nd line/Back Office technical support for all aspects of RAN, comprising of BSC, RNC, GSM, Node B, and e-Node B elements. Providing support to resolve complex network and performance faults in line with customer KPI.
  • Responsible for high-level analysis, diagnosis and problem solving on the RAN.
  • Advising on the processes and procedures within , proactively identifying areas for improvement within the RAN and wider network.
  • Interfacing with Engineering and Network rollout to ensure that all technical issues that will affect the operational environment are considered in the design, testing, and trial, and risks are highlighted appropriately. Supporting design and pilot activities.
  • Ensure that all necessary hardware and software functionality is understood, and performance limitations and risks are mitigated and minimized within Operations.
  • Advising of any skills that are required within the team, and within Managed Operations, delivering up-skilling where possible.
  • Ensure that sufficient regular audits take place to proactively maintain elements and sufficient documentation exists to be able to audit the network.
  • Ensure that accurate BSC/RNC configuration documentation is maintained and an adequate disaster recovery procedure is produced.
  • Closely monitoring the planned works on the deployed RAN on a switch by switch basis, to ensure that network availability is sufficiently maintained taking the necessary corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensure that the RAN availability is maintained whilst carrying out hardware and software upgrades.
  • To maintain maximum levels of RAN availability by assisting in the development and / or enhancement, of reactive & proactive skills and processes.
  • Ensuring that the RAN security is maintained at all times.
  • Work with Front/Back Office monitoring teams to refine alarm delivery and fault detection processes proactively, and as a regular RCA activity.
  • Effectively escalate & liaise with Vendor support until fault resolution.
  • Provide 24x7 Back office support as part of an on-call rota
  • Maintain all KPI and SLA above agreed levels.
Qualifications
  • BSC/HND within Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or equivalent.
  • Min 5 years operational support experience of BSC/RNC platforms, with in depth understanding of platform and performance troubleshooting.

 

Skills
  • Able to demonstrate an in-depth working technical knowledge of 2G,3G telecommunication networks, covering UMTS (Air Interface & Iu), ATM, IP.
  • Experience in providing support on an On-Call or shift environment.
  • In depth understanding of Nokia RNC, BSC, Node B or BTS operation and maintenance.
